UNESCO,s Man and Biosphere programme (MAB) is using the World Network of Biosphere reserves to promote new approaches to sustainable development.In 2008, there are 531 Biosphere reserves in 105 countries. In the implementation of the MAB programme, the regional biosphere reserves networks play a central role, particularly in eschanging ideas, experiences and information. AfriMAB is the sub Saharan network of biosphere reserves. The network was created in 1996 and counts 52 Bioshere reserves in 24 countries out of which 2 are transboundary.
