E-forum on Improving AfriMAB Contribution to the Sustainable Development Agenda of the MAB Programme 11th July - 30 August 2007

The Regional Office of UNESCO in Nairobi together with the MAB Secretariat has organized an e forum from 11th July - 30th August 2007 titled "Improving AfriMAB contribution to the sustainable development agenda of the MAB Programme".

The objective of the E-forum is to put at the disposal of all categories of biosphere reserve stakeholders (managers, coordinators, representatives of local communities, private sector, scientists) and their partners, a platform of information, discussion and sharing of knowledge and experience in preparation of the two major meetings forseen on the network agenda, which are:

  • at the regional level, the AfriMAB Workshop which will discuss "Zonation of Biosphere Reserves and Land Management" from 10th - 15th September 2007 in Cape Town, South Africa.
  • at the global level: the 3rd World Congress of Biosphere Reserves on "Biosphere Futures, UNESCO Biosphere Reserves for Sustainable Development", which will be held from 4th - 8th February 2008 in Madrid, Spain.

Participants (the network's members and any other interested person) will be invited to share their experiences and ideas on the following sessions:

  • Session 1: AfriMAB contribution to the sustainable development agenda and poverty reduction in Africa
  • Session 2: Improving AfriMAB institutions and human resources capacity.
  • Session 3: Improving the zonation of BR and its relevance as a land management tool.
  • Session 4: AfriMAB 2007: the way forward.
