The Nairobi Office is a Multi- sectoral Regional Office with the responsibility for all of UNESCO programmes (i.e. Education, Natural Sciences, Culture, Social and Human Sciences, and Communication) in thirteen countries in Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean.

The countries covered are: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia,  Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia South Sudan and Uganda).

Finally the Office is the host of regional programmes: The African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI) and the UNESCO Institute of Statistics.
