Culture

Welcome to the website of the Culture Sector of UNESCO's Nairobi Office. This website tells you how our office tries to contribute towards the promotion and protection of cultural diversity in the five countries in which it represents UNESCO: Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda.

To achieve our goals, we encourage and organize activities and projects - which are in line with the overall framework of UNESCO's objectives - in the following domains in the field of culture:

  • World Heritage;
  • Intangible of living heritage;
  • Movable heritage;
  • Cultural expressions including crafts and cultural industries;
  • Cultural policies;
  • Intercultural dialogue.

We cooperate - as appropriate - with national authorities (including national commissions for UNESCO), universities, cultural institutions, NGOs and individual experts. While the main UNESCO website presents the undertakings of the Organization at the international level, this site provides information on projects and activities that are implemented specifically by the UNESCO Nairobi Office.
